IMMIGRATION STORIES
The Passage
The machine hums through the golden mountains of Mexico
Inside the ancient machine dreamers travel to a new planet
We come from a Mexico that only exists in our dreams
A Mexico resting on a blanket of clouds
I was not born in the mountains
I was born in the land of the pyramids
But like all dreamers, I must go through the mountains
Not the story I am told, but the story I feel is true
As the roar of the machine comes to an end
The final part of the journey begins
Faith and hope will guide us across the desert
We fear the welcome of an American flag
As the moonlight guides our passage
My mother carries me in her arms
Once my memories begin to record
I realize I left behind my other half
Mi Abuelo.
