Empowering undocumented young people to achieve educational and career goals

Legal Services Program Overview

Since 2009, E4FC’s Legal Services program has helped thousands of undocumented young people across the United States understand their potential immigration remedies, benefits, and rights through our innovative online legal intake, authoritative educational materials, and intensive training of immigrants in immigration law.

Immigration Law Fellowship Overview

E4FC’s Immigration Law Fellows are essential to our program’s mission. Immigration Law Fellows provide support to undocumented young people nationwide through our Dreamer Intake Service (intake.e4fc.org), a free online immigration screening tool. To date, we have served more than 2,500 undocumented young people through this valuable service.


Roles & Responsibilities

Conduct Individualized Immigration Screenings
  • Conduct weekly reviews and analysis of 2-3 online intakes from our Dreamer Intake Service
  • Write weekly memos outlining an individual’s possible immigration options and any relevant educational resources
  • Provide substantive feedback on our procedures and service (as necessary)
Phone Support for Dreamer Intake Service Users
  • Under the supervision from our immigration law experts, conduct 1-on-1 phone support to Dreamer Intake Service users who need additional information and resources (calls will begin by January 2019)

Outreach and Community Education
  • Support development of promotional and educational materials (i.e. videos, flyers, etc.)
  • Help in the promotion of E4FC publications, guides, or programs (as needed)
  • Support immigration screening clinics hosted by key partner organizations to assist applicants with eligibility assessment and/or application processing (as needed)
  • Serve as an informal resource to other young immigrants
  • Be willing to share personal story - to one’s own comfort level - for advocacy purposes through social media, media interviews, legislative hearings/visits, conference presentations, etc. (as needed)

Fellowship Benefits

Through this fellowship, the Immigration Law Fellow will benefit in the following ways:

  • Receive leadership and professional development training. Sharpen communication skills, time-management, and interpersonal skills
  • Expand knowledge about resources and support available to immigrant youth
  • Be part of an engaged and collaborative team of Immigration Law Fellows
  • Opportunity to network with other immigrant leaders in E4FC’s network
  • Receive mentorship from E4FC staff

Qualifications

The Immigration Law Fellows will be thoroughly committed to E4FC’s mission and vision. Immigration Law Fellows should:

  • Have direct knowledge of or personal connection to the undocumented experience. This position is open to people of all of immigration statuses
  • Recent college graduates or at least two years of college
  • Be interested in a career in law/government, immigrants’ rights, and/or how U.S. laws impact undocumented immigrants
  • Have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Have strong critical thinking skills and be detail-oriented.
  • Be able to work independently and remotely online with a strong commitment to weekly deadlines
  • Be able to cooperate and work effectively in a team
  • Be willing to learn new skills and try new experiences
  • Be kind and empathetic 
  • Live in the San Francisco Bay Area for the duration of the program (June 2018 to May 2019)
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office and Google Apps. Experience with Salesforce a plus.
  • Have reliable access to a computer and internet from home

Time Commitment

  • Attend a mandatory opening overnight weekend retreat from June 30-July 1, 2018
  • Commit to 10-15 hours/week from June 30, 2018 through May 31, 2019
  • Attend professional development trainings on Fridays
  • Participate in regular check-ins with Legal Services staff
  • Participate in E4FC community-building events (3­-5 events/year, locations vary)

Grant

Assuming the Immigration Law Fellow fulfills all program requirements, they will receive a $6,600-$9,900 grant to support their participation in the program. The grant will be disbursed in monthly installments of $600-$900, upon successful completion of program requirements and responsibilities.
