Program Overview
E4FC’s Community Engagement Program supports Bay Area site partners in developing and implementing sustainable support systems for undocumented students. Our goal is to bring about institutional change that increases the number of undocumented young people who 1) successfully enroll in higher education and 2) benefit from immigration remedies.
Community Engagement Fellowship Overview
This year, we will recruit and train 1-2 new young immigrants to participate in our two-year Community Engagement Fellowship program. Our Community Engagement Fellow will lead our Community Engagement efforts in Contra Costa County with support and mentorship from our staff and second-year Community Engagement Fellows.

Roles & Responsibilities
In 2018-2019, Community Engagement Fellows will have the following key roles and responsibilities:
Site Partnerships
- Support Contra Costa County in developing and implementing sustainable support systems for undocumented students in high school
- Develop customized projects to address the specific needs of undocumented students
- Deliver ongoing presentations to ensure that all undocumented students in Contra Costa receive accurate information in a timely manner
- Be available to students, parents, and educators at their sites for basic information, referrals, and individual student inquiries
- Research and maintain up-to-date information about relevant community resources for undocumented students and their families at their site
- Support site partners in developing strong partnerships with community organizations serving undocumented youth and their families
Educational Resources
- Collect information about evolving needs of undocumented young people to inform creation of new educational resources
- Support Community Education & Engagement staff in designing, creating and disseminating educational resources
- Support Community Education staff in building and maintaining regional contact and resource lists
Presentations
- Deliver in-person and virtual presentations with accurate and comprehensive information to undocumented students, parents, educators, and allies at events throughout the Bay Area and beyond
- Connect audience members with relevant community resources (people and organizations)
- Complete a Presentation Reflection after each event
- Debrief with the Community Education Coordinator as requested/needed
General
- Serve as a role model to other undocumented youth and young adults
- Offer hope and inspiration to the undocumented immigrant community and their allies
- Serve as a face, voice, and example for undocumented young people within the larger immigration discourse and conversation around immigration reform and educational equity and access
Connect community members to local, state and national resources and service/advocacy organizations

Fellowship Benefits
Through participating in this program, Community Engagement Fellows will benefit in the following ways:
- Further hone their public speaking and presentation skills, and gain experience interacting with new audiences (particularly educators, administrators, and allies)
- Expand their knowledge and expertise about educational access and topics affecting undocumented young people
- Develop their mentorship skills to support undocumented students (primarily high school students in Contra Costa)
- Develop their assessment, planning, partnership development, and outreach skills
- Sharpen their communication skills, time-management, and interpersonal skills
- Receive customized professional development based on their individual career goals
- Be part of an engaged, collaborative, and close-knit team of Community Engagement fellows (6 total)
- Contribute to and benefit from the larger E4FC family of staff and other program team leaders

Qualifications
Community Engagement Fellows will be thoroughly committed to E4FC’s mission and vision. In addition, Community Engagement Fellows should meet the following qualifications:
- Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a two-year college or four-year university
- Passionate about mentoring and supporting undocumented youth (primarily high school students)
- Direct knowledge and personal connection to the undocumented experience
- Willingness to learn to develop and implement an individual work plan
- Willingness to participate in creation of E4FC educational resources (i.e. research, input/feedback, production, distribution, etc.)
- Passionate about presenting to educators, counselors, and administrators serving undocumented young people
- Demonstrable commitment to immigrant rights
- Ability to work well in a team and/or group setting
- Flexible work and/or school schedule
- Access to some form of reliable transportation
- Preferred: Able to comfortably lead presentations and workshops in two or more languages
Preferred: Career interest in working with undocumented youth in educational setting (i.e. teaching, counseling, social service, etc.)

Time Commitment
- Attend a mandatory opening overnight weekend retreat from June 30-July 1, 2018
- Commit to 15-20 hours/week from June 30, 2018 through May 31, 2019
- Attend professional development trainings on Fridays
- Participate in regular check-ins with Legal Services staff
- Participate in E4FC community-building events (3-5 events/year, locations vary)

Grant
Assuming the Community Engagement Fellow fulfills all program requirements, they will receive a $10,000-$12,000 grant to support their participation in the program. The grant will be disbursed in monthly installments of $1,090, upon successful completion of program requirements and responsibilities.
